September 2026 - Planning a Dinner Party

check out the websites below. Do I include the fall hazardous waste day in this month or in October’s 2026? Grab websites from April’s newsletter.

Are you a Martha Stewart wannabe? I’m not, so I’ll just say that upfront.
We try to keep things simple. We feel it’s more important to spend time with friends than freaking out about the table decorations.

When you plan a dinner, you have to give it some thought. You have to decide what to serve? Are there any food allergies to contend with? Are children coming or do we have any picky eaters?

My husband and I choose meals that we can make create ahead and just sit back and relax. Also look at the timing of things? How long should things take to cook and when do we heat the vegetables so things are ready at the same time. I think a lot of people struggle with this one.

I find it helpful to make a list of everything that is going to be served. Have you ever had your guests leave your house and when you start to put things away and open the fridge and see that you forgot to serve the______? I know it’s happened to me once. My list acts as a quick reminder to make sure everything is out on the table.

Over the last few years, we serve most dinners buffet style and this has created a relaxing atmosphere and your guests can help themselves.

Here are few helpful website: http://www.realsimple.com/holidays-entertaining/entertaining/dinner-party-checklist
1. Choose One “Wow” Item
Let just one dish be special. Everything else can be simple and reliable.
2. Prep the Day Before
• Chop veggies
• Set the table
• Label buffet spots and place a serving utensil by the dish
3. Use a Simple Timing Backwards Plan
Start with when you want to eat, then work backward:
• 0:00 – Eat
• -10 min – Heat vegetables
• -20 min – Rest meat
• -45 min – Main dish in oven
Seeing it visually makes it much easier.
4. Embrace Buffet Style
Buffet removes:
• Pressure of perfect plating
• Awkward “pass this, pass that”
• Stress about serving everyone at once
