February 2026 - Reclaim your space: Tame that Junk Drawer!

Have you ever been guilty of opening a drawer and tossing something in it just to get it off your counters? I know I have too. See—this professional organizer isn’t perfect either.

One of the first things I recommend is measuring the drawer and finding a tray or organizer that fits well and truly maximizes the space. Many local stores like Target and Walmart carry great drawer organizers, and you can also get ideas online. Check out The Container Store or Amazon for inspiration.

Once you’ve purchased a drawer organizer, take everything out of the drawer and think about how you actually want to use this space. This is also a great time to grab the vacuum and get rid of crumbs and dust bunnies hiding in the corners. Give the drawer a quick clean, then ask yourself: “What really belongs here?”.

In most cases, a junk drawer can be converted into a simple office-supply drawer. Think: pens, pencils, a memo pad, stapler and staples, scissors, paper clips, rubber bands, tape, a small tape measure, and maybe a few batteries.

Most importantly, before dropping something into the drawer in the future, pause and ask yourself: “Does this truly belong here, or does it have a better home?”. That one question can help you stay on track and prevent clutter from creeping back in.
