December 2022 — Help Me Get Through The Holidays

If you work better when things are organized, get as many answers as possible.

If you are hosting holiday guests, ask them what their plans are while they are staying with you. What nights will they be home to celebrate with you and when will they be celebrating outside the household?

I always tell my children to set their expectations properly, so there aren’t any surprises and feelings won’t get hurt. It’s easier to have a conversation now while we are calm and thinking a little more clearly.

DO YOU WANT to uphold any family traditions during the holidays? Which ones do you want to observe, and which ones might you let go?

If you have many guests, stock up on a portable clothes rack. Provide baskets of extra toiletries. It’s helpful to provide extra phone chargers, and post your household WIFI password for the guests to use.

If you or your visitors have young kids, you can inquire about their routine. Take that into consideration when planning meals and family events.

IF FRIENDS AND FAMILY live close by, how do you share costs of hosting? Are you always stuck hosting because you have a large house?

If so, don’t be afraid to delegate providing food, drinks or desserts to other families not hosting. If you are always going to someone’s house, why not buy them a gift card to their favorite store, or treat them for a night out? It is a nice gesture.

How will you be handling the holiday gift exchange? Will you pull names? Or does everyone bring a gift that is gender neutral within a certain budget?

I’ve included a website with some fun gift exchange games - https://icebreakerideas.com/gift-exchange-games-ideas/#Christmas_Story_Pass_and_Grab

MAKING A CALENDAR and meal menus will ease much stress during the holidays, too. You can even put favorite recipes with the holiday decorations so you’ll find them easily when you start decorating your house next year.

Lastly, after the fun is finished and before you pack everything away, take a look and see what items need to be replaced. Perhaps you can buy replacements after the holiday season on clearance!

Whew — now you should be ready to make the best-possible memories for all your guests this busy holiday season. Try to enjoy it!
