April 2024 – Let’s Go Green! (I mean recycling!)
Maybe some of you didn’t want to read this article any further because of the headline. I know we have a lot of Blue fans, but what I mean is let’s celebrate Earth Day which this year takes place on Monday, April 22, 2024.
Would like to recycle more? Let’s make it easy on ourselves by making it convenient. I have a brown paper bag near where I open my mail. I put all the junk mail and extra advertisements that come in the envelope into the brown bag. Then I have my shredder on the counter and I shred things that have my information that I don’t want others to have. Once the shredder is full, I can also dump it into the paper bag.
If you have a lot of shredding, keep your eye out in your local newspaper, or call your local city office to learn if they are planning a shredding day. Some communities over the past few years have held them.
I place my recycling bins just outside my door to the garage so that it is just a short reach away. Sometimes, having a designated space where you can keep recyclables makes all the difference in your success. A few years ago my husband converted our garbage area into a garbage and recycling. Having a recycling bin in my kitchen makes it even easier to recycle.
I've recycled a lot of plastic bags at Meijer and Walmart and now I'm trying to be better and bring in my canvas and cooler bags into the store with me. When I was visiting Canada, they have done away with all plastic bags.
I bring a lot of the newspapers and magazines to the school recycling containers. Hazardous Waste days will soon be posted so take advantage of those programs and be mindful of our precious earth.
